On 26 March 2015 Chris Stanley was invited to present the 9th Sir Frederick Lee Memorial Lecture at a conference organised by the Institute of Concrete Technology at Loughborough University in the UK. Sir Frederick Lee is famous for his research into the chemistry of cement and he also wrote a very comprehensive book on the subject. Chris felt flattered to be asked to deliver this lecture, which has previously been delivered by far more renounced speakers including Professor Adam Neville.
The subject of his talk was Concrete Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - a visual journey, in which he traced the history of concrete from its early beginnings through to its use in modern outstanding buildings and structures and his thoughts on concrete of the future.
Chris was also elected from fellow to an Honorary Fellow of the Institute in recognition of his technical contribution to the industry over many years.
